The KESAmag “Laugh it Off” Comedy Challenge is a Facebook-based comedy competition that invites comedians and comedy groups from all around the world to submit their best short-form comedy videos and participate in a series of humorous challenges.
The competition that will run through the month of July 2024 will be divided into four rounds, with the winner receiving a grand prize of 150,000 FCFA and the runners-up receiving 100,000 FCFA, 60,000 FCFA, 30,000 and 10,000 FCFA respectively.
Rounds
Round 1 – Playoffs Round: Interested comedians can submit their comedy video entries (up to 3 minutes in length) to the Telegram Number or link provided. The videos will all be posted on the Facebook page in an interval of 30 minutes each on a date that will be announced. The top 25, based on audience engagement (likes, shares, comments & poll) after 7 days will move on to the next round. The calculation criteria for the Playoffs round will be described at the end of this article.
Round 2 – Fan Favorite Round: The Top 25 Comedians from the Playoffs Round will submit their most creative comedy performances to the Telegram Number or link provided, taking into consideration, costume, location, sound & message to be evaluated by a jury. The top 16, based on audience engagement, poll and jury evaluation after 3 days will move on to the next round. The calculation criteria for the Fan Favorite Round will be described at the end of this article.
Round 3 – Challenge Round: The top 16 comedians from the Fan Favorite round will submit a 3-minute recorded standup comedy performance based on specific topics to the Telegram Number or link provided, which will feature in a series of face off comedy challenges. The top 8 will advance from this round, and will be based on “audience name mentioning comments”, poll votes and jury evaluation on the winners of each challenge. The calculation criteria for Challenge Round will be described at the end of this article.
Interactive Live Show with Top 8: The Top 8 will be invited to feature on an Interactive live show where they will meet their fans, introduce/profiling, answer questions from fans and preview their final video performances. This will take place before the final round.
Round 4 – Final Showdown: The top 8 comedians from the Challenge Round will compete in the final showdown, where they will present their best 5-minute comedy sketches to the Telegram Number or link provided. The winner will be determined by a combination of audience engagement & poll votes.
Prizes:
- 1st Place: 150,000 FCFA
- 2nd Place: 100,000 FCFA
- 3rd Place: 60,000 FCFA
- 4th Place: 30,000 FCFA
- 5th Place: 10,000 FCA
** Winners from other countries will receive the prize money in their currency as per the prevailing exchange rates.
** Winners will also benefit from other opportunities depending on the donations and external support received during the challenge.
** If cash donations are received at any point within the challenge, the organizers will at their discretion determine how to break it down to provide other opportunities for the comedians.
Calculation Criteria & Duration for Each Round
Round 1 – Playoffs Round:
- Calculation: 40% Likes, 20% Comments, 20% Shares, 20% Poll.
- Duration: 7 Days
Round 2 – Fan Favorite Round:
- Calculation: 30% Likes, 20% Comments, 15% Shares, 15% Polls, 20% Jury.
- Duration: 7 Days
Round 3 – Challenge Round:
- Calculation: 50% Comments, Poll 25%, 25% Jury
- Duration: 3 Days
Round 4 – Final Showdown:
- Calculation: 40% Likes, 20% Comments, 20% Shares, 20% Poll.
- Duration: 7 Days

Highest Score/Highest Votes x Percentage allocated to that criterion.
For Example: In the Playoff Challenge, If
- Albert has 20,000 likes,
- Sandra has 15,000 likes
- Paul has 10,000 likes,
Considering the Calculation Criteria for the Playoffs round is: 50% Likes, 25% Comments, 25% Shares; Their percentage breakdown on likes will therefore be determined as below;
Albert: (20,000/20,000) x 40 = 40%
Sandra: (15,000/20,000) x 30 = 37.5%
Paul: (10,000/20,000) x 20 = 25%
