I was going through the profile of Limbe-based record label, AfriCam Records and a lot of things in there caught my attention.
The record label was founded about 2 years ago by Wilhelm Muhr, a German National who fell in love with Cameroon’s cultural diversity and her beautiful landscape. As he dug deeper into our culture, he found out that there are lots of musical talents who do not have the right platforms and functional structures to showcase their talent and grow.
In a bid to offer his contribution to the growth of the industry, he decided to create the label/company through which he funds projects of upcoming and established talents including other cultural projects. Last year 2018, they sponsored and played a major role in one of Cameroon’s biggest fashion events, Cocowols International Fashion Festival and this year, they came into FIAFA as one of the investors and sponsors.
Project “Killer with” is their first music video and production in which they collaborated with Afro pop star, Magasco. “Killer with” has been confirmed as a potential banger out there and many are calling for similar collaborations.
They are open to further collaborations with ventures in arts and culture as well as other businesses as long as they fall within their interest and meet their investment criteria. At the moment, AfriCam records collaborates with established artists in order to build their brand strongly and penetrate the market before opening up to upcoming artists whom they can lead to success. They also plan to get into music distribution and marketing in the near future.
It is very very important that we show our appreciation to foreign nationals who come into the industry and invest into our culture. The Cameroon music industry needs all the help it can get.
