Nigerian singer, Burna Boy won “Best International Act” at the BET 2019 Awards Ceremony that took place on Mon, 24 June in Los Angeles.
The BET Awards celebrate African Americans and other American minorities in music, acting, sports, and other fields of entertainment.
Burna Boy was nominated along with other top musicians from around Africa and the world like Mr. Eazi from Nigerian, AKA from South Africa and Giggs from the UK.
Burna Boy‘s Mum, Bose Ogulu who also doubles as his manager accepted the award on his behalf and in her speech, she said Burna Boy will like to let every Black person know that they were Africans first, before anything else.
Among the other key moments on the night was when Nipsey Hussle, a respected and beloved community activist in Los Angeles who was shot dead on March 31, earned the Humanitarian Award. Cardi B was awarded album of the year prize; Tyler Perry, Ultimate Icon Award and Rihanna presented with the Lifetime Achievement Award.
